We have been successful in leasing the eight and a half acres on the west side next door to Christots. We are moving ahead immediately with our plans to open the nature center that has been in our vision.
The Nature Center will be named the David Hoffman Montessori Nature Center, and it will be in service beginning in January. Ms. Terri will be the director of the center, and she will be following a science curriculum with the twelve children that will attend daily. The science curriculum is one that is based on the concepts presented at a two-day seminar that Ms. Linda, Mr. Phil and Ms. Terri attended last fall in Nebraska at the Arbor Day Foundation, and it is only the first program to be provided at the Nature Center! Currently paperwork is being submitted to make the center an Arbor Day Foundation site, and it will be featured prominently in the summer programs.
The children will need a pair of boots (or similar footwear) to use when going to the Nature Center. You will be receiving a schedule of the days and times when the children will be participating in Nature Center activities. A group of children will go to the center in the mornings, and another group will attend in the afternoons. When spring arrives, a horse and small farm animals will be at the center.
The facility and the programs available will be going through their initial transitional phases. This process will also necessitate some changes in staff responsibilities. Ms. Bernardine, our new faculty member, will be the lead teacher for the North Room, working with Ms. Ginger. Ms. Bernardine is educated in the Montessori Method (at Avila College) and has taught for many years in Montessori schools, including one that she operated. It is exciting to have her experience and ideas available to us during this time of growth!
An important final reminder… School closes for the Christmas Winter Holiday this Friday, December 21st, at 12:00 PM. No lunch will be served that day! School will resume January 2nd, 2008.
All of us at Christots want to extend our warmest wishes for a joyful and loving holiday season! Peace and happiness to all! |
